Service Magazine; August 12, 1996; Page 20; "New Basic Exhaust Bypass Group (Wastegate Valve) Used In Exhaust Bypass Group"

In the Adaptable To section of this article, the last sentence of the second paragraph includes the incorrect part number (133-1572) for the diaphragm. The correct part number is the 113-1572 Diaphragm.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Description of Change: A new wastegate valve is used in the exhaust bypass group on the 3516 (54Z and 2PK) Engines and Remanufactured 3516 (6CL and 7CL) Engines in these trucks. The new wastegate valve has a double spring (instead of the single spring in the former wastegate valve) to reduce side loading of the valve in the valve guide. Another improvement is a material change to the valve and valve guide that results in longer life and less air leakage past the valve/valve guide.

Identification of new 126-9398 Basic Exhaust Bypass Group (wastegate valve) components.

Adaptable To: The new 126-9398 Basic Exhaust Bypass Group (wastegate valve) is a direct replacement for the former 111-6118 Basic Exhaust Bypass Group (wastegate valve) in the 117-0062 Exhaust Bypass Group. The new wastegate valve is effective with 3516 (2PK1076) Engines and Remanufactured 3516 (7CL240) Engines. The former wastegate valve is canceled and replaced by the new wastegate valve.

The former 111-6118 Basic Exhaust Bypass Group (wastegate valve) can be updated by installing the new components identified in illustration and chart. If the former wastegate valve is updated, it is recommended that two new 3S-5849 Gaskets and a new 133-1572 Diaphragm also be installed.

When repairing or updating the wastegate vale, be sure to use 2 shims (8) between the ends of springs (2) and (4) and 111-6117 Cover (10). Also coat the stem of valve (7) with 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize. Always reinstall the wastegate with a new 7C-9710 Gasket (9). This gasket is required for proper thermal insulation.
