Challenger 65 (7YC) Challenger 65B (7YC) Challenger 75 (4CJ) Tractors

SUPPLEMENT: 04/11/94

Service Magazine; February 21, 1994; Page 4; "Right Hand Console Reinforcement" for Challenger 65 (7YC), Challenger 65B (7YC), Challenger 75 (4CJ) Tractors.

On Page 4, "Chart A", Item K; is described as buttonhead screws. "Item K" actually consists of three piece parts with a quantity of four each, 4V6981 Bolt, 5P4115 Washer, and 9S8750 Nut.

--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------

Slight console movement coupled with a maladjusted transmission cable and a worn shift gate may create a situation of unexpected tractor movement.

There are four steps to fix this problem.

1. The 3W-4571 Guide (J) forms the shift gate. Replace shift gate if it is worn excessively. Excessive wear has occurred when the lever has worn the shiny appearance off the surface.

2. If loosening of the four bolts that retain the plate assembly (A) is a chronic problem, then remove the bolts and cut away the film decal from under the bolt head. This will provide a solid seat for the bolts heads. The use of 9S-3263 and 4C-4030 Thread Lock will further assure continued tightness.

3. Install a 107-0602 Bracket (B) to reinforce the console. See Bracket Installation steps below.

4. Check the transmission cable adjustment. Readjust if necessary.

Bracket Installation

a. Note the amount of the top console panel showing between the throttle opening (G) and beige plastic trim. Enough variation exists between tractors, so that some bolts may have to be located underneath the plastic trim because there is not enough console showing to allow bolts to be exposed.

b. Remove the beige plastic trim on right hand console.

c. Lift floor mat. Remove the lower channel that retains the carpeting material along the vertical right hand console. Pull the carpeting material from the side of the right hand console.

d. Remove right hand outside access panel.

e. Hold the bracket (B) firmly underneath the top console and mark the hole locations on the top of the right hand console. The edge of the bracket should be 1 to 2 mm (.039 to .079in) from the edge of the throttle opening (G). To locate properly, move the bracket (B) back and forth along the left hand edge of the right hand console. Make sure that the bracket (B) does not show from the top through the throttle opening (G).

f. For locating purposes, holes in the 107-0602 Bracket (B) are 24 mm (.945 in) (or just slightly over 15/16 of an inch) apart.

g. Drill holes (hole size 7.5 mm or .295 inch, approximately 7/16 inch) and install the two top bolts, washers and nuts.

h. To secure the bracket (B) to the side of the right hand console, it may be possible to drill holes inside the console through the outside right hand access panel by using a small drill. Manipulating the drill could be difficult due to the size of the drill. If the drill being used is too big to drill the mentioned holes, then use a square or other suitable means to locate the slot location inside the tractor. The holes should be drilled approximately 16 mm (.630 inch or 5/8 inch) under the top channel (C) used to retain the carpeting material. Holes in the 107-0602 Bracket (B) are just slightly over 23.622 mm (15/16 in) of an inch apart; the same spacing as the other two holes.

i. Install bolts, nuts, and washers with the head of the bolt towards the operator compartment.

j. Replace all trim and access panels.
