Fuel Sump Tank Drain Valve Protection Available {1279}

Usage:

Challenger 65 and 75 Tractors

The fuel sump tank drain valve on A and B Series machines extends below the sump tank such that it is vulnerable to crop snagging. This may open the valve or pull it out of the sump tank, both of which result in the loss of the entire fuel load.

To correct this problem, a bracket may be mounted to the midbeam which holds the drain to the sump tank. A pin is then used to secure a new drain lever in the UP or closed position. Follow the procedures listed in the steps below, and Illustrations 1 and 2 to properly install the bracket and pin.

Procedure To Install Fuel Sump Tank Drain Valve Protection

Illustration 1. Sump tank drain valve protection.

Illustration 2.

1. Open the drain for the fuel sump tank and drain the fuel into a suitable container. Be certain that the straps on the fuel tank are tight. Remove the old fuel drain valve.

2. Install the new 111-9795 Valve (1) into the fuel sump tank, replacing the 5H-6005 Seal (2) and the 3W-5430 Nut (3) on assembly.

NOTE: The bracket mounts to the left or right of the valve depending on which way the valve is turned. On later models the valve is turned with the handle to the inside, as shown in Illustrations 1 and 2 above.

3. Assemble 111-9031 Lower Bracket (4) to 111-9030 Upper Bracket (5) in the center of the slot adjustment using two 4L-6454 Bolts (6), two 6V-8801 Nuts (7), and four 8T-4896 Washers (8).

4. Hold 111-9030 Upper Bracket (5) into position. Using the remaining bolt holes in 111-9031 Lower Bracket (4) as a template, mark their location on the center line of the midbeam.

NOTE: It is important that the holes be drilled on the horizontal centerline of the midbeam.

5. Drill two holes in the midbeam using a .323 in drill to a depth deep enough to accommodate a 25.4 mm (1.0 in) bolt. Tap the hole using 3/8-16 tap. Clean all debris from the tapped hole.

6. Position the brackets and secure to the midbeam using the remaining two 4L-6454 Bolts (6) and two 8T-4896 Washers (8).

NOTE: In certain applications it may be necessary to grind the large bracket to clear the midbeam, or make other modifications to the configuration.

7. Secure the handle of the 111-9795 Valve (1) in the closed position using one 1B-0676 Pin (9) and one 5P-0372 Pin (10).
