Engine News SEBD9269, Article 9, Page 7, February 1999; "New Lines Groups Available To Eliminate Leakage In Air Piping".
The effectivity of the sales models was correctly listed in the article. However, the serial number breaks were not identified. Effectivity for the new 152-2109 Air Lines Group, the 147-7705 Air Lines Group Shutoff, and the new 153-8405 and 160-6512 Air Lines Groups (HPAC) applies to the following engines:
- 3612 (9RC296-Up), (9FR21-Up)
- 3616 (1PD352-Up), (1FN150-Up)
--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
- 3612 (9RC296-Up), (9FR21-Up)
Description of Change: Three new air lines groups and one new water line group are now available for use to eliminate leakage in the air piping near the aftercooler in the above engines. The new lines groups use a bellow assembly (1) shown in the illustration which replaces an O-ring seal. The charts describe the new changes to these engines.
Adaptable To: The illustration shows the location of a typical new 147-7704 Bellow Assembly in the new 153-8405 Air Lines Group. This new bellow assembly is now installed in the air lines groups to help prevent any leakage in the systems.
Illustration 1.
The following seven charts explain the adaptability and changes that must be made to the former lines groups and engines.
NOTE: While upgrading any of the air lines groups described with the bellow assembly (2), the two 6V-5102 Seals (1), and the 7W-6340 Gasket (3) must not be used again. These parts must be replaced with new corresponding identical parts.
Chart 1 and Chart 2 list the new air lines groups with their corresponding engines and aftercoolers. A different air lines group is required on engines that use a high performance aftercooler (HPAC). Chart 1 lists the aftercooler groups and their corresponding engines.
Chart 2 shows the new air lines groups and their corresponding engines.
Chart 3 describes which parts are necessary to perform a field upgrade to the new air piping on a 3612 or 3616 Engine using the standard style aftercooler group.
Due to the disassembly of the air lines group that is required during this field upgrade procedure, two 6V-5102 Seals, and one 7W-6340 Gasket must be replaced. These parts must be replaced by new corresponding identical parts.
Chart 4 shows the parts that are required to replace the 9Y-9538 Shutoff Air Lines Group with the new 147-7705 Shutoff Air Lines Group. This replacement may take place in 3612 and 3616 Engines that have the earlier style aftercooler group.
Due to the disassembly of the shutoff air lines group that is required during this replacement procedure, two 6V-5102 Seals, and one 7W-6340 Gasket must be replaced. These parts must be replaced by new corresponding identical parts.
Chart 5 shows the parts required to replace the 153-3488 Air Lines Group with the new 160-6512 Air Lines Group.
Due to the disassembly of the air lines group that is required during this replacement procedure, one 7W-6340 Gasket must be replaced with one new identical gasket.
Chart 6 shows the parts required to replace the 130-6262 Air Lines Group with the new 153-8405 Air Lines Group. This conversion can be done on 3616 Engines.
Due to the disassembly of the air lines group during this replacement procedure, the 7W-6340 Gasket must be replaced with a new identical gasket.
When updating either a 3612 or a 3616 Engine using the high performance aftercooler (HPAC) to the new air lines groups, it is necessary to make some changes to the turbocharger water lines group. These changes are required due to an interference between the turbocharger air and water lines. Chart 7 shows the necessary changes to the 130-6264 Turbocharger Water Lines Group.
