Extended Life Coolant (ELC) Now Preferred For 3600 Diesel Engines{1395}

Usage:

3606 (8RB),
3608 (6MC),
3612 (9RC, 9FR),
3616 (1PD, 1FN),
3618 (2MW) Engines

After having been successfully tested, Caterpillar Extended Life Coolant (ELC) is now the preferred coolant for Caterpillar 3600 Diesel Engines. ELC can be used in engines that operate with distillate fuel and in engines that operate with heavy fuel oil. For details on the specifications and benefits of ELC, see Data Sheet PEHP4036, "Extended Life Coolant".

Unlike conventional coolants, ELC does not require frequent testing. Do not use supplemental coolant additives with ELC. For a cooling system that uses ELC, Caterpillar ELC Extender is added to the cooling system halfway through the ELC service life. While ELC does not require frequent testing, a Level 2 S·O·S coolant analysis is recommended after every six months of operation.

Many engine failures can be prevented by properly maintaining the cooling system. Cooling system maintenance is as important as maintenance of the fuel system and the lubrication system. The following Chart lists the recommendations for maintenance of ELC in 3600 Diesel Engines. Continued field testing may extend these maintenance intervals.
