New Piston With 4 mm Wide Oil Ring Reduces Light Load Oil Consumption {1214,1215,1225}

Usage:

3304B (3TC, 1PS, 83Z),
3306B (1CZ, 1RS, 8JJ, 85Z, 9NR) Generator Set Engines;
PGDE300 (8NS) Generator Sets

Description of Change: A new piston with a 4 mm wide oil ring is now used on these engines. The 4 mm wide oil ring reduces light load oil consumption.

Adaptable To: Use the following chart to correctly identify the rod and piston group or piston body for these engines:

The rod and piston groups listed in the chart include the piston with piston rings, wrist pin and retainers, assembled to the connecting rod with rod bearing.

The piston bodies listed in the chart do not include piston rings. Part numbers for piston rings are:

* 6I-0497 Piston Oil Ring
* 2W-1708 Piston Intermediate Ring
* 2W-1707 Piston Top Ring

Both the 15.0 : 1 and 16.0 : 1 compression ratio pistons use the same piston rings.

The new pistons and oil rings were effective with 3304B (1PS00625-Up); 3306B (1CZ01219-Up, 1RS00630-Up, 8JJ00512-Up, 85Z14469-Up, 9NR03283-Up). The new pistons with 4 mm wide oil rings are adaptable to all 3304, 3304B, 3306, and 3306B generator set engines. The 4 mm wide oil ring has been used on the 3306C On-Highway Truck Engine for several years.
