New "Long Core" Aftercooler Provides Improved High Ambient Temperature Performance {1064}

This engine now uses a larger inlet air aftercooler core. This larger core will provide improved performance in applications designed to meet an ambient temperature capability of 43°C (110°F). See the Reference for new engine performance data. This publication also contains the latest heat rejection and system pressure drop curves needed to properly size the external heat exchanger cooling system package.

Because of the larger aftercooler core, the engine mounted junction box must now be mounted off the engine. The bracketing used from the factory is intended for shipping purposes only. Failure to properly remote mount the engine junction box could result in excessive junction box vibration. This could lead to a failure of the junction box or the internal components of the junction box.

Field retrofit of the new larger aftercooler core requires modifications to the engine block. Contact your local Caterpillar Dealer for specific instruction on how to complete a field update installation.
