Description of Change: A new idler gear assembly is currently being used in the front gear group of all G3500 Engines. This new idler gear assembly is a direct replacement for the former idler gear assembly. The bearing in this new idler gear assembly is pressed into the gear and then machined with tight dimensional tolerances. This tight fit prevents the gear from rocking on the shaft if torsional vibrations are present. A rocking motion can result in cavitation of the bearing material. The dimensional tolerances of the former idler gear assembly bearing were not as tight as they are with the new idler gear assembly. The larger tolerance in the former idler gear assembly allowed a mechanic to replace only the worn bearing if the gear was still in a useable condition. This new improved idler gear assembly must be purchased finished with the bearing already installed.
Adaptable To: The new 144-8263 Idler Gear Assembly is a direct replacement for the former 111-8145 Idler Gear Assembly in the 8N5768 Front Gear Group in all G3500 Engines. The former idler gear assembly is cancelled.
NOTE: If a problem is encountered with this new idler gear assembly, please contact G3500 Engine Customer Service Representative Gary Keffeler at phone number (765) 448-5968 with the details of the problem.
