Description of Change:
This article replaces the article with the same title in the October 1998 issue of Engine News.

A new connecting rod assembly is being used in the 3500 and G3500 commercial engines. The new connecting rod assembly provides improved rod eye bushing retention. The new connecting rod assembly is proof tested to be sure there in no movement between the connecting rod and the rod eye bushing at a load of 30 kN (6750 lbs). The former connecting rod assembly was tested with a load of 23.5 kN (5288 lbs).
Adaptable To: The new 161-2500 Connecting Rod Assembly is a direct replacement for the 101-3281 Connecting Rod Assembly in 3500 commercial engines. The new connecting rod assembly is in effect as listed in the chart.
NOTE: 101-3281 Connecting Rod Assemblies with Data Codes 98F-XXXX, 98G-XXXX, and 98H-XXXX (see the illustration for the location of the Data Code) include the same improvements as the 161-2500 Connecting Rod Assembly.

At each engine overhaul, all 3500 series connecting rod bushings should be proof tested to be sure there in no movement between the connecting rod and the rod eye bushing at a load of 30 kN (6750 lbs). Refer to the Guideline For Reusable Parts, SEBF8242, "Verification of Connecting Rod Eye Bushing Retention Using the 5P-8639 Connecting Rod Bushing Press Group", for information on proof load testing.
