3608 (6MC) Diesel Engines
Reference: Service Manual Module, Disassembly And Assembly, 3606 And 3608 Diesel Engines, SENR3600-01
Description of Change: New rear camshaft segments are being used on the eighth cylinder. The new segments have a thicker flange and a smaller pilot diameter. The thicker flange reduces the possible stress and fatigue in the flange area. By increasing the flange thickness, the spacer between the camshaft segment and journal assembly was eliminated. New 5/8"bolts are also used to fasten the camshaft to the journal, replacing the former 1/2" bolts. These changes improved the strength of the camshaft.
Adaptable To: Chart A identifies the new and former rear camshaft segment part numbers depending on the application. The new rear camshaft segments are in effect with 3608 Diesel Engine 6MC310. The new rear camshaft segments are not direct replacements for the former camshaft segments (due to change in bolt size and segment length). The new rear camshaft segments can be used to replace the former camshaft segments when all the components identified in Chart B and the illustration are used together. New 101-8173 and 101-8201 Roller Follers must be installed when camshaft segments are replaced
