The Reference Articles identify new, remanufactured, and UTN crankshafts and which cylinder blocks these crankshafts can be used in. As a reminder, the former crankshafts can be used in later cylinder blocks, so if the later crankshafts are not available, Caterpillar recommends the former crankshaft be used if available.
For All Remanufactured Upgrade To New (UTN) Crankshafts
It is important to understand when checking the availability of any UTN crankshafts, that Caterpillar's normal practice is not to stock the UTN crankshafts under the UTN part number. Therefore, if a dealer checks availability of the UTN crankshaft, he will find zero on hand. The normal practice is to stock new crankshafts. When an order is received for a UTN crankshaft, a new crankshaft is shipped as a UTN crankshaft. So, to check availability of the UTN crankshaft, check availability of the new crankshaft. If a new crankshaft is available, then a UTN crankshaft is also available.
