Note: The later vibration dampers have finned covers. Be careful not to damage the fins.

  1. Remove two bolts (1) that hold vibration damper (2). Install Tooling (B) in the adapter.

  2. Install a suitable lifting device through the center of vibration damper (2). The weight of a narrow vibration damper is approximately 288 kg (639 lb). The weight of a wide vibration damper is approximately 402 kg (886 lb).

  3. Remove the rest of bolts (1) that hold vibration damper (2) to the adapter. Slide the vibration damper along Tooling (B) and remove vibration damper (2). Remove Tooling (B).

  3. Install a suitable lifting device through the center of vibration damper (4). The weight of a narrow vibration damper is approximately 288 kg (639 lb). The weight of a wide vibration damper is approximately 402 kg (882 lb).

  4. Place vibration damper (4) on Tooling (A). Align the Timing Mark for the TC position on vibration damper (4) with the Timing Mark on the crankshaft. Be sure that the bolt holes are aligned. Be sure that the heads of the small bolts at the center of the vibration damper fit into the spacer. Install vibration damper (4).

  5. Install adapter (3) on Tooling (A). Be sure that the bolt holes are aligned. Be sure that the heads of the small bolts at the center of vibration damper (4) fit into adapter (3).

  6. Install the bolts that hold the adapter to the crankshaft. Tighten the bolts in a diagonal pattern to a torque of 1350 ± 150 N·m (1000 ± 110 lb ft).

  7. Remove Tooling (A) and install Tooling (B) in adapter (3).

Note: Ensure that the outer vibration damper is installed in the correct orientation. The Timing Mark for the TC position should be turned 36 degrees in a clockwise direction from the Timing Mark for the TC position on vibration damper (4). The direction is determined when the dampers are viewed from the front of the engine.

  8. Install a suitable lifting device through the center of vibration damper (2). The weight of a narrow vibration damper is approximately 288 kg (639 lb). The weight of a wide vibration damper is approximately 402 kg (886 lb).

  9. Install vibration damper (2). Be sure that the bolt holes in the vibration damper are aligned with the threaded holes in the adapter. Be sure that the heads of the small bolts at the center of vibration damper (2) fit into the adapter.

  10. Install bolts (1) that hold vibration damper (2) to the adapter. Remove Tooling (B). Install remaining bolts (1). Tighten the bolts in a diagonal pattern to a torque of 1350 ± 150 N·m (1000 ± 110 lb ft).
