Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install

Start By:

  1. Remove the prelubrication oil pump.

  2. Install the engine lifting brackets.


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove the bolts and clamps that hold the tube assembly to engine oil pan (4).

  2. Remove bolts (2). Remove spacer (1). Remove the tube assembly from engine oil pan (3) and the engine oil pump.

  3. Ensure that all connections between the cylinder block and engine oil pan (3) have been removed.

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine lifting brackets. The weight of the C280-12 Engine is approximately 26000 kg (57300 lb). The weight of the C280-16 Engine is approximately 30000 kg (66100 lb). Remove bolts (4) that hold engine oil pan (3) to the cylinder block and the end covers. Remove the engine from the base.

  5. Place the engine on support blocks. The minimum height of the stands should be 671 mm (26.4 inch) for the removal of the engine oil pan.

  6. Place a pallet jack under each end of engine oil pan (3). The weight of the C280-12 engine oil pan is approximately 628 kg (1385 lb). The weight of the C280-16 engine oil pan is approximately 661 kg (1457 lb).

  7. Raise the pallet jacks in order to support engine oil pan (3).

  8. Remove gasket (5) from engine oil pan (3).

Installation Procedure

  1. Clean the gasket surface of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Install a new gasket (5) on engine oil pan (4).

    Note: Check the inside of the engine oil pan in order to ensure that all of the Tooling has been removed. Ensure that there is nothing under the suction bell.

  2. Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine lifting brackets. The weight of the C280-12 Engine is approximately 26000 kg (57300 lb). The weight of the C280-16 Engine is approximately 30000 kg (66100 lb). Place the engine on support blocks.

  3. Move engine oil pan (4) into position under the cylinder block. The weight of the C280-12 engine oil pan is approximately 628 kg (1385 lb). The weight of the C280-16 engine oil pan is approximately 661 kg (1457 lb).

  4. Install Tooling (A) at each corner of engine oil pan (4). Use a pallet jack in order to raise engine oil pan (4) into position.

  5. Install bolts (3).

  6. Place the tube assembly and spacer (1) in position. Install bolts (2).

    Note: Lubricate the O-ring seals with clean engine oil before installation.

  7. Install the clamps and bolts that hold the tube assembly to engine oil pan (4).

End By:

  1. Remove the engine lifting brackets.

  2. Install the prelubrication oil pump.
