New Oil for All Engines Burning Low-Sulfur Fuel (0.05% or less) Except The 3600 Family Of Engines{1318}

Usage:

Caterpillar is introducing a new engine oil, API CG-4, for use with low sulfur fuel. The new API CG-4 category was developed to address the Engine Manufactures Association (EMA's) need for emission controlled diesel engines for all on-highway vehicles in the U.S. and ALL vehicles in the state of California.

The use of low-sulfur fuel is the most effective way to control engine emissions. Reducing fuel-sulfur reduces the sulfate particulates in the emissions of diesel engines and allows engine manufactures to meet the 1994 emission particulate standards. In addition, API CG-4 oil leaves fewer piston deposits, helps decrease wear and provides improved viscosity control.

The new formulation for Cat DEO (CG-4) is qualified as both API CF-4 and CG-4. The new formulation of Cat DEO is the oil recommended for use in North America for all applications, excluding the 3600 engines. Selected areas outside of North America will convert to Cat DEO (CG-4) in early 1996. API CF-4 (CF-4) will continue to be the recommended oil for countries continuing to operate at fuel-sulfur levels higher than 0.05%.
