Several corrections need to be noted in the 3176B/3406E Electronic Troubleshooting Guide. The corrections will help prevent the unnecessary replacement of good Electronic Control Modules (ECM). The bold text identifies the corrections. Make note of the following corrections on the appropriate pages:
P511, Page 125, Test Step 4, Dot 6 should read "The voltage should be 9.5 ± 1.5 volts DC."(NOT 11.5 ± 1.0 volts DC)
P511, Page 127, Test Step 6, Dot 3 should read "Use a multimeter to measure the voltage from Pin 23 (Cool Level Low) of the ECM Connector P1 to Pin 29 (Sensor Common) and from Pin 2 (Cool Level Normal) of the ECM Connector P1 to Pin 29 (Sensor Common)." (NOT P2)
P511, Page 127, Test Step 6, Dot 5 should read "The voltage should be 9.5 ± 1.5 volts DC."(NOT 11.5 ± 1.0 volts DC)
P512, Page 137, Test Step 7 should read "Note: During the ECAP Special Tests the ECM follows the setting of the Retarder Solenoid Switches." (NOT ignores)
P512, Page 137, Test Step 8, Dot 3 should read "The resistance from Pin 7 (Retarder Solenoid Common) to 19 (Retarder Solenoid Lo/Hi) should be 12.5 ± 3.0 ohms and from Pin 7 (Retarder Solenoid Common) to Pin 13 (Retarder Solenoid Med/Hi) should be 6.2 ± 2.0 ohms." (NOT 10.3 ± 0.7 ohms and 5.2 ± 0.5 ohms)
P512, Page 139, Test Step 10, Dot 3 should read "The resistance from Pin 7 (Retarder Solenoid Common) to 9 (Retarder Solenoid Lo/Hi) should be 12.5 ± 3.0 ohms and from Pin 7 (Retarder Solenoid Common) to Pin 11 (Retarder Solenoid Med/Hi) should be 6.2 ± 2.0 ohms." (NOT 10.3 ± 0.7 ohms and 5.2 ± 0.5 ohms)
P512, Page 140, Test Step 11, Dot 5 should read "The resistance should be 12.5 ± 3.0 ohms at each of the three solenoids. (NOT 10.3 ± 0.7 ohms)
