Electronic Unit Injector (EUI) Replacement{1290}

Usage:

3176B (9CK),
3406E (5EK) Truck Engines

Reference: Electronic Troubleshooting 3176B And 3406E Diesel Truck Engine, Form No. SENR5582-01

Consult the Reference to determine if a specific EUI is malfunctioning. The replacement of a defective injector utilizing this procedure normally resolves performance complaints.

Numerous replacement sets of EUIs that were returned from the field have been carefully evaluated. In each case the customer complaint was low power or high fuel consumption. Each case of unacceptable performance was carefully evaluated with respect to dynamometer fuel rates, wheel horsepower, injector fuel flow on test benches, injector spay pattern, and subsequent customer feedback. Our investigation indicates replacing the majority of EUIs, or complete sets of EUIs is unnecessary in most cases. Long term gains in fuel economy or power are not occurring as a result of replacing all or most of the EUIs.

Chronic power or fuel economy complaints should be carefully evaluated on a certified PAR dynamometer, with specific attention to fuel rate. If an engine is found to have fuel rates below specifications, contact a service analyst to discuss possible solutions.
