NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Do not turn the crankshaft or the camshaft while the camshaft gear is removed. If the front gear group is not correctly timed during installation, interference can occur between the pistons and the valves, resulting in damage to the engine.

  1. Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the plate and front housing (13) .

    Note: The mating surfaces of the plate and the front housing must be free of oil, fuel, water, dirt, assembly compounds, and any other contaminants during assembly.

  1. Install a new gasket (15) on the plate.

    Note: Trim the gasket even with the bottom of the front housing after assembly.

  1. Apply Tooling (B) to the bottom of gasket (15) in order to fill the space at the front housing and the engine oil pan.

  1. Install front housing (13) on the dowel pins on the cylinder block.

  1. Install bolts (14) that fasten the engine oil pan to the front housing.

  1. Install bolts (12) .

  1. Install bolt (10) and nut (9) .

  1. Install nuts (11) .

  1. Position strap (8) and install bolts (7) .

  1. Position bracket (3) and install bolts (2) .

  1. Install bolts (1) .

  1. Install nut (4) on the stud.

  1. Install bolts (5) that fasten the adapter and fuel transfer pump (6) to the plate.

End By:

  1. Install the engine support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Support (Front) - Remove and Install".
  2. Install the crankshaft position sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Position Sensor - Remove and Install".
  3. Install the air compressor, if equipped. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Compressor - Install".
  4. Install the crankshaft front seal and the wear sleeve. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Crankshaft Front Seal - Install".
  5. Install the camshaft gear. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Camshaft Gear - Remove and Install".
  6. Install the expansion tank. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Expansion Tank - Remove and Install".
