- Loosen clamp (3). Remove boot (2).
- Loosen clamp (4). Remove breather (1).

- Turn the breathers upside-down in order to inspect the condition of the breather elements.
Clean the breather elements with clean, nonflammable solvent. If the breather elements remain contaminated after the cleaning, discard the breathers and obtain new breathers. Do not attempt to disassemble the breathers.
Allow the breather elements to dry before installation.
- Repeat this process on the opposite side.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Loosen hose clamps (2) and remove tube (3).
- Remove four bolts (4) from each of the elbow assemblies.
- Remove crankcase breathers (1) and the gasket.

- Coat new O-ring seal (5) with clean engine oil. Place the O-ring seal on adapter (6).

Illustration 5 g01691073 - Position breather (1). Place clamp (4) around the part of the breather that will be attached to the valve covers. Tighten clamp (4).
- Lubricate boot (2) and position boot (2) on breather (1). Place clamp (3) on boot (2). Tighten clamp (3).
- Repeat this process on the opposite side.

Note: Coat the rubber parts with clean engine oil or petroleum jelly in order to make installation easier.

- Install the gaskets and position crankcase breathers (1).
- Install four bolts (4) on each of the elbow assemblies.
- Install tube (3) and tighten hose clamps (2).
