Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.


  1. Open the hood.

  2. Cut cable straps (1), (2), and (3). Disconnect harness assembly (5). Use Tooling (A) to remove nitrogen oxide sensor (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install nitrogen oxide sensor (4) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Lightly lubricate the threads of nitrogen oxide sensor (4) with Tooling (B).

      Note: If a new nitrogen oxide sensor is being installed do not apply Tooling (B) to the threads. New nitrogen oxide sensors should have the required lubricant already on the threads.

    2. Use Tooling (A) to install nitrogen oxide sensor (4) into the clean emissions module. Tighten nitrogen oxide sensor (4) to a torque of 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
