Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Remove the bottom guard.

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

1. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Check" for the correct draining procedure.

Note: Do not pry or gouge the sealing surface of the engine oil pan. Tap the engine oil pan with a rubber mallet in order to remove the engine oil pan.

2. Remove bolts (2) and engine oil pan (1) .

3. Remove the oil pan gasket from engine oil pan (1) .

Installation Procedure

1. Inspect the condition of the gasket. Replace the gasket, if necessary.

2. Clean the mating surface of the engine oil pan and the cylinder block. Apply Tooling (A) to four areas on the sealing surface of the oil pan. The areas are marked Location (Y). The areas are at the corners of the oil pan in the following locations:
   • connecting joint of the front housing and the front of the cylinder block

   • connecting joint of the flywheel housing and the rear of the cylinder block

3. Place a new oil pan gasket and engine oil pan (1) on the cylinder block.

4. Tighten four oil pan Bolts (X) .

5. Start with Bolt (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts in a counterclockwise sequence.

6. Tighten the bolts to the following torque 31 ± 1 N·m (274 ± 9 lb in).

7. Start again with Bolt (Z) and tighten all remaining bolts in a counterclockwise sequence.

8. Tighten the bolts to the following torque 31 ± 1 N·m (274 ± 9 lb ft).

9. Fill the engine with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change". Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Check" for the correct filling procedure.
