Start By:

  1. Remove the speed/timing sensor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Speed/Timing Sensor - Remove and Install".


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove two bolts (1). Install Tooling (A).

  2. Remove remaining bolts (1) that secure flywheel (2) to the crankshaft.

  3. Attach Tooling (B) and a suitable lifting device onto flywheel (2). Use Tooling (B) and the suitable lifting device in order to remove flywheel (2) from the housing. The weight of flywheel (2) is approximately 54 kg (120 lb).

  4. Check the condition of ring gear (3). Replace ring gear (3) with a new part if ring gear (3) is worn or damaged.

    Note: Identify the orientation of ring gear (3) on flywheel (2) for the correct positioning when the new ring gear is installed.

  5. Position flywheel (2) and ring gear (3) on a suitable support. Use a hammer and a punch in order to remove ring gear (3) from flywheel (2).
