Water Temperature Regulator - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure


NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system to a level below the water temperature regulator into a suitable container for storage or disposal.

  2. Loosen the hose clamp from the upper radiator hose and remove the upper radiator hose from the water temperature regulator housing.

  3. Remove bolts (1) that hold water temperature regulator housing (2) in position on the cylinder head. Remove water temperature regulator housing (2). Remove O-ring seal (3) from water temperature regulator housing (2).

  4. Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "Water Temperature Regulator - Test" for the correct procedure on testing the water temperature regulator.

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

  1. Clean the water temperature regulator housing.

  2. Install O-ring seal (3) in water temperature regulator housing (2).

  3. Position water temperature regulator housing (2) on the cylinder head. Install bolts (1).

  4. Install the upper radiator hose onto the water temperature regulator housing. Tighten the hose clamp.

  5. Fill the cooling system to the proper level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities (Refill)".
