Removal Procedure
Start By:
- Remove the engine oil pan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Oil Pan - Remove and Install".

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Remove valve assembly (1) from piston cooling jet (2) .

- Remove piston cooling jet (2) from the cylinder block.
Note: The engine crankshaft may be rotated in order to access the piston cooling jet.
Note: Ensure that the ball moves freely within the valve assembly of the piston cooling jet. Check that the tube of the piston cooling jet is not damaged.
- Inspect the condition of hollow dowel (3). If the hollow dowel is damaged, use a new part for replacement.
Note: Hollow dowel (3) is used to locate the piston cooling jet.
Installation Procedure

- Install piston cooling jet (2) in the cylinder block.
Note: Ensure that piston cooling jet (2) is properly located on hollow dowel (3). Refer to the Specifications Manual, "Piston Cooling Jet" topic for the correct procedure for the alignment of the piston cooling jet.

- Install valve assembly (1) into piston cooling jet (2). Tighten the banjo bolt of valve assembly (1) to a torque of 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
