NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

  1. Remove any rust and/or deposits from the outside of the cylinder liner. Use glass beads or a wire brush.

  1. Thoroughly clean the cylinder block bore for the cylinder liner.

  1. Lubricate the bores for O-ring seal (2) and O-ring seals (3) with glycerin. Install the O-ring seals onto cylinder liner (1) .

    NOTICE

Do not install the cylinder liners with the seal plates in position. Aluminum debris shaved from the plates will prevent the cylinder liners from seating.

  1. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to cylinder liner (1). The combined weight of cylinder liner (1) and Tooling (A) is approximately 127 kg (280 lb).

  1. Apply Tooling (E) to the surfaces of the cylinder block bore and the O-ring seals on cylinder liner (1) .

  1. Carefully lower the cylinder liner into the cylinder block. Lower the cylinder liner until the bottom O-ring seals on the cylinder liner enter the bore in the cylinder block. Make sure that Notch (X) in the cylinder liner and Dowel (Y) on the cylinder block are aligned.

    NOTICE

Leakage will occur if the sealing surface for the cylinder head gasket is damaged. Be careful not to damage the sealing surface for the cylinder head gasket when you install the cylinder liner.

  1. Remove Tooling (A). Use Tooling (C) and Tooling (D) to press the cylinder liner into the bore.

End By: Install the piston and connecting rod. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Piston and Connecting Rods - Install".
