Engine Oil Cooler - Remove

Usage:

3126B 3GS

Removal Procedure

Start By:

  1. Remove the heat exchanger. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Heat Exchanger - Remove".

Hot oil and components can cause personal injury.

Do not allow hot oil or components to contact skin.

----------------------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hot coolant, steam and alkali.

At operating temperature, engine coolant is hot and under pressure. The radiator and all lines to heaters or the engine contain hot coolant or steam. Any contact can cause severe burns.

Remove cooling system pressure cap slowly to relieve pressure only when engine is stopped and cooling system pressure cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Do not attempt to tighten hose connections when the coolant is hot, the hose can come off causing burns.

Cooling System Coolant Additive contains alkali. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  1. Remove flare nuts (1), (2), and (3) and remove the oil lines. Immediately cap all openings or plug all openings in order to prevent contamination.

  1. Remove six bolts (4) and remove housing (5). Inspect the O-ring seals on housing (5) for wear or damage. If the O-ring seals are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.

  1. Remove engine oil cooler bypass valve (6). Inspect the O-ring seal on the engine oil cooler bypass valve for wear or damage. If the O-ring seal is worn or damaged, use a new part for replacement.

  1. Remove fourteen bolts (7) and engine oil cooler (8) from the cylinder block.

  1. Remove the gasket and any gasket material from engine oil cooler (8). Replace the gasket with a new part.
