SUBJECT: IMPROVED HOSES PREVENT OIL LEAKS AT THE HYDRAULIC OIL
COOLER ON CERTAIN EXCAVATORS
PROBLEM:
Oil leaks may occur from the hoses that join the hydraulic oil cooler and the return and filter lines at the hydraulic oil cooler.
SOLUTION:
If the hoses that join the hydraulic oil cooler and the return and filter lines leak, replace the hoses. Use the procedure that follows for replacement of the hoses.
The length of the new hoses is increased. A new support correctly positions the oil cooler pipe after the installation of the longer hoses. Additional hose clamps are also added to the new hose in order to prevent oil leaks. The effectivity of the improved hoses is listed in Table 1.

1All 330C Excavators Except 330C L (DKY) Excavators
- Procure the required parts that are listed in Table 2.
- Loosen the two hose clamps (1) on the former hose (4) at the INLET side of the oil cooler. Remove the former hose. Discard the hose and retain the hose clamps. Refer to Illustration 1.
- Loosen the two hose clamps (1) on the former hose (4) at the OUTLET side of the oil cooler. Remove the former hose. Discard the hose and retain the hose clamps.
- Loosen and remove the two bolts (2) and hard washers (3), the U-bolt (6), two locknuts (8), and two hard washers (7) from the former support (5). Discard the former support. Retain the two bolts, U-bolt, two locknuts, and four hard washers.
- Install a new hose (9) on the INLET side of the hydraulic oil cooler. Use the two hose clamps (1) retained in Step 2 and two new hose clamps (1). Tighten the four hose clamps to a torque of 7.5 ? 0.5 N?m (5.5 ? 0.4 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 2.
- Install a new hose (9) on the OUTLET side of the hydraulic oil cooler. Use the two hose clamps (1) retained in Step 3 and two new hose clamps. Tighten the four hose clamps to a torque of 7.5 ? 0.5 N?m (5.5 ? 0.4 lb ft).
- Install new support (10). Use the two bolts (2), two hard washers (3), U-bolt (6), two locknuts (8), and hard washers (7) retained in Step 4. Tighten to a torque of 22 ? 3 N?m (16 ? 2 lb ft).
- Check the new hoses in order to make sure that the leaks are eliminated.
