SUBJECT: THE STRENGTH OF THE ROD ASSEMBLY IS INCREASED FOR THE BOOM
CYLINDER AND THE STICK CYLINDER ON CERTAIN EXCAVATORS

PROBLEM:

The size of the fillet radius concentrated the stress in the rod assemblies for the boom cylinder and for the stick cylinder. The concentrated stress decreased the strength of the rod assemblies.

SOLUTION:

If the rod assembly fails, replace the former rod assembly with the new rod assembly. The size of the fillet radius is increased for new rod assemblies. The increased fillet radius eliminates the concentrated stress and increases the strength of the new rod assemblies. The new rod assemblies are listed in the table. The locations of the increased fillet radius are shown in the illustrations.
