Lubrication Of The Bearing In The Fan Belt Tension Pulley On Certain Excavators Caterpillar

Lubrication Of The Bearing In The Fan Belt Tension Pulley On Certain Excavators

Usage:

EXCAVATORS320B (5BR),
320B L (6CR) EXCAVATORS

Problem:

Reports indicate that it is difficult to lubricate the bearing in the fan belt tension pulley on Excavators configured with high ambient cooling. The fan guard may have to be removed in order to place the grease gun nozzle on the grease zerk fitting.

Solution:

The procedure that follows will modify the guard assembly and replace the grease zerk:

1. Remove the 139-8731 Guard Assembly. Modify the fan guard by removing a 45.0 mm (1.77 inch) section of the screen as shown in Illustration 2.
2. Replace the 095-0948 Nipple (straight type) with a 3B-8488 Hydraulic Fitting (ninety degree type) in the 125-3000 Pulley Assembly.
3. Reinstall the modified 139-8731 Guard Assembly. Illustration 1. 139-8731 Guard Assembly with Detail A.
