Usage:
C-12 (1YN, 9NS) TRUCK ENGINES IN FORD LOUISVILLE AND AEROMAX TRUCKS
Problem:
Some of the above 1997 and 1998 model year trucks may exhibit cracks in the engine front cover, near the fan hub pulley support mounting studs. (Ford Part Number F7HZ-8B624-FB Support). These cracks in the front cover may be caused by the top two bolts, for the fan pulley support, bottoming out on the threads in the head before applying sufficient clamping load at the top of the support bracket.
Solution:
Repair the engine front cover using Caterpillar service procedures. Replace the two M12 X 1.75 X 120 mm bolts (Ford Part Number N601425-S2) with two M12 X 1.75 X 110 mm bolts (Ford Part Number N601424-S2). These new bolts are 10 mm shorter than the former bolts. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 80 to 120 N·m (59 to 88 lb ft). The M12 X 1.75 X 110 mm bolt (Ford Part Number N601424-S2) has been released for the 1999 model year production.
