Correct "Key" Part Number And Group Code Number To Use When Filing Warranty Claims Related To Jacobs Exhaust Brake Service Letter E489

Usage:

ENGINESC-12 (9NS11644-12783) TRUCK ENGINES EQUIPPED WITH A JAKE BRAKE

Reference: JACOBS VEHICLE SYSTEMS, JACOBS ENGINE BRAKE SERVICE LETTER E489

Problem:

The included Jacobs Engine Brake Service Letter E489 explains that the Jacobs Model 312A Housings, installed on C-12 (9NS11644 - 12783) Truck Engines, may have an oil passage that is not drilled deep enough. Continued use of one of these housings may result in severe engine damage due to contact between the engines exhaust valves and pistons.

Solution:

Jacobs is contacting customers and asking that C-12 Truck Engines in the affected serial number range be returned to an authorized Caterpillar service center for inspection and repair as needed.

When filing warranty claims for this inspection and/or repair, reference Part Number 126-0158 as the key part causing the failure, and place the number 1119 in the group code field.
