Camshaft Injector Lifter (Roller Follower) Assembly Replacement Caterpillar

Camshaft Injector Lifter (Roller Follower) Assembly Replacement

Usage:

ENGINESALL 3176, 3176B, C-10, AND C-12 TRUCK ENGINES;
ALL 3176B, 3176C, AND 3196 INDUSTRIAL AND MARINE ENGINES;
ALL CATERPILLAR MACHINES POWERED BY 3176, 3176C, AND 3196 ENGINES

Problem:

Camshaft injector lifters have been known to fail within short operating periods following a "hard" injector seizure. A "hard" injector seizure occurs when the injector plunger fails on its down stroke. As the plunger seizes, separation occurs in the mechanism and the injector push rod cup disengages from the rocker arm insert (ball). The push rod wedges itself behind the rocker arm insert (ball) and crushes the push rod between the rocker arm and the lifter assembly. As a result, the roller follower pin becomes damaged. This damage is not visible. If the engine is operated without replacement of the injector lifter assembly, the lifter and camshaft may fail.

Solution:

Following a "hard" injector seizure, replace the camshaft injector lifter assembly for the corresponding failed cylinder. To avoid future down-time and additional cost, replace the camshaft injector lifter assembly at the same time as the injector and other damaged components.
