Usage:
Problem:
A new paint process is used on these engines. This new process may have caused water and paint to enter the compressor through the intake and exhaust ports of the air compressor governor. The water and paint contamination may cause an air compressor governor malfunction. If paint is in the air compressor governor, then paint may also be in the unloader valve area of the air compressor. Paint in this area may cause an unloader valve to malfunction.
Solution:
If the air compressor on one of these engines is not operating correctly, inspect the air compressor governor.
Air Compressor Governor Inspection:
Remove the cover from the air compressor governor. Use snap ring pliers to remove the retainer ring. Remove the spring. Check the cartridge area for significant paint accumulation. If there is significant paint, replace the air compressor governor and inspect the compressor unloader valve area for significant paint.
Compressor Unloader Valve Inspection: Remove the four bolts that fasten the unloader valve cover plate to the compressor cylinder head. Remove the unloader valve cover plate. Inspect the area for significant paint. Wipe any paint from the area with clean cloth. Put the unloader valve cover plate and gasket in position on the compressor cylinder head and installed the four bolts that fasten the cover plate to the cylinder head. Tighten the four bolts to a torque of 20 to 25 N·m (15 to 18 lb ft).
