Excessive Engine Blow-By And Engine Oil Mist Caterpillar

Excessive Engine Blow-By And Engine Oil Mist

Usage:

ENGINES3126B (7AS1-16370) TRUCK ENGINES

Problem:

There have been reports of excessive blow-by and oil mist coming out of the fumes disposal tube on these engines. This blow-by and oil mist may collect on the side of the cylinder block and drip off onto the ground.

Solution:

This problem has been diagnosed as oil carryover. To minimize this problem install a 159-0288 Injector Deflector (2) on each unit injector as shown in the illustration. Use the following procedure to install the deflectors.

NOTE: Use Special Instruction, REHS0184, "Removal And Installation Instructions For 3126B HEUI Injector" as a reference for this procedure.

1. Remove the 6V-8653 Bolt and 144-3466 Washer from the fuel injection pump group. DO NOT REMOVE THE UNIT INJECTOR.
2. Put the 159-0288 Injector Deflector (2) in position on the unit injector and secure with an 8T-2396 Bolt (1) as shown in the illustration. Note that a washer is not required with the new deflector (2) and bolt (1). Tighten the 8T-2396 Bolt (1) to a torque of 12 ± 3 N·m (9 ± 2 lb ft).
