Installation of the 431-5438 Shaft Kit for the Armrest on Certain Wheel Feller Bunchers{7324} Caterpillar

Introduction

This Special Instruction provides information for installation of the 431-5438 Shaft Kit .

Do not perform any procedure that is outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you understand this information.

1. Remove 387-9474 Lock Knob (1) from the arm rest/joystick assembly.

2. Remove arm rest/joystick assembly and place the assembly out of the way.

3. Remove 391-7138 Gas Spring (2).

4. Remove pivot shaft retainer clip (3) .

5. Remove hose guide (4) from pivot shaft (5) .

6. Remove pivot shaft by cutting the weld on the back side of shaft (5) .

Ensure the Following Before Proceeding to the Installation Procedure

1. Ensure that the back surface of the hanger is smooth and free of any excess weld. Ensure that the flat washer will lay flat and not contact any existing weld during reassembly.

   Note: If any weld is present, make sure to cover the seat and grind smooth.

2. Ensure the hole where the shaft used to be allows a 5/8 bolt to pass through.

   Note: If the bolt will not pass through, drill out the hole.

Installation Procedure

1. Remove the existing flanged bushing from the inside of the hose guide and replace with item (3) from the kit.

2. Apply Loctite to the last 3/4 of the threads of item (1) .

3. Assemble with washers (2) as shown.

4. Install nut (4) and tighten.

   Note: When tightening, make sure not to over tighten to the point that hose guide (5) will not pivot.

5. Verify that when the hose guide pivots down it properly contacts the headed stop pin (6) .

6. Install arm rest/joystick assembly.

7. Install 387-9474 Lock Knob (1) into arm rest/joystick assembly and adjust/ tighten to correct operator adjustment.
