Parking Brake Manual Release

Usage:

2670C B3E

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death could result when towing a disabled machine incorrectly.

Block the machine to prevent movement before releasing the brakes. The machine can roll free if it is not blocked.

------ WARNING! ------

Crushing Hazard. There is no clearance for a person in this area when the machine turns. Severe injury or death from crushing could occur. Connect the steering frame lock between front and rear frames before lifting, transporting, or servicing the machine in the articulation area.

Disconnect the steering lock and secure before resuming operation.

Perform the following steps before you tow the machine.

  1. Place transmission in neutral. This disconnects the wheels from the hydraulic motor.

  2. Raise the attachment off the ground. Install the boom cylinder lift lock.

  3. Turn off the machine engine.

  4. Install steering lock bar.

    NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Prentice products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

  5. Reverse the hydraulic steering hose connections (A) and (B) in steering cylinder hydraulic circuit. This will allow the steering cylinders to move freely.

Note: Make sure that the cylinder hoses are connected correctly before you operate the machine again. The steering system will not function if the hose connections are reversed.

  6. To deactivate the parking brake, provide portable hydraulic pressure Port-A-Power at the parking brake supply on the pilot manifold.

  7. Block the wheels. Connect portable hydraulic pressure Port-A-Power to the brake hose. Plug port on the manifold. Pressurize to 1896 kpa (275 PSI)minimum, 3447 kpa (500 PSI)maximum.

  8. Remove steering lock bar.

  9. The machine will be towed from the rear, using the towing eye (D) located under the rear bumper.

Note: Before you tow the machine, inspect the tow line or the tow bar. Make sure that the tow line or the tow bar is sturdy enough for towing the disabled machine. The tow line or bar must have a strength that is equal to 1.5 times the gross weight of the machine that is being towed.

Normally, the towing machine should be as large as the disabled machine. The towing machine must have enough brake capacity, enough weight, and enough power for the grade and distance that is involved.

Note: When going downhill, be sure to use a hold back vehicle. The machine is now without any effective braking.

  10. When towing is completed, reinstall steering frame lock.

  11. Reconnect steering cylinder hoses in proper location.

  12. Reconnect parking brake hose to port on the pilot manifold.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury or death can result from brake malfunction.

Make sure all necessary repairs and adjustments have been made before a machine that has been towed to a service area, is put back into operation.
