Introduction
This Disassembly and Assembly applies to all self-regulated constant voltage generators with DC controlled reactors, serial numbers 1-599, and with compensating current transformers, serial numbers 600-up.
CUTAWAY VIEW OF GENERATOR
1. Exciter. 2. Controls (Voltage regulator with conpensating current transformer. Generators prior to serial number 600 use a regulator with DC controlled reactor). 3. Outlet (Size and location varies with different models). 4. Field pole (1200 rpm generators have six poles, 1800 rpm generators have four poles). 5. Rotor coil support (Some four pole generators have these supports). 6. End cover (Flat or bulged varies with different models). 7. Generator support (These are also the engine rear supports on all electric sets except the D397 and D375).
As illustrated, the generators have obvious exterior and internal variations. Even though these variations will be noted quickly, the basic disassembly and assembly procedures are the same for all generators. The photographic views therefore, were processed to show a typical generator rather than a specific one.
