Usage:
Exciter Removal And Installation
The exciter is a self-excited direct current generator. It is belt driven and is mounted on top of the main generator. The exciter provides direct current for the field of the main generator.
1. Remove the belt guard and belts.
2. Loosen the mounting bolts (2) which secure the exciter (3) to the regulator housing.
NOTE: The mounting bolts (4) can not be removed from the exciter mounting brackets because of the interference with the end cover.
PREPARING TO REMOVE THE EXCITER
1. Cover plate. 2. Mounting bolt. 3. Exciter. 4. Mounting bolts.
3. Remove the regulator housing cover plate (1).
REMOVING THE CONTROL PANELS (DC Controlled Reactor Type)
5. Screws. 6. Screws. 7. Control panel. 8. Reactor panel.
4. Remove the screws (5) and (6) which secure the panels (7) and (8).
NOTE: As all leads and connections for the compensating current transformer type generator are on the front of the reactor panel (8), as illustrated, there is no need to loosen the screws at the top of this panel. All exciter leads can be reached by lowering panel (7).
REMOVING THE CONTROL PANEL (Compensating Current Transformer Type)
5. Screws. 7. Control panel. 8. Reactor panel.
5. Make certain that all leads are properly tagged then disconnect the center leads 3, 4 and 5 (9) from the control panel (7) and the leads A1 (13), A2 (12) and F2 (10) from the terminal block (11).
PREPARING TO REMOVE THE EXCITER (DC Controlled Reactor Type)
7. Control panel. 9. Center leads 3, 4, 5. 10. Lead F2. 11. Terminal block. 12. Lead A2. 13. Lead A1.
6. Remove the center bolt at the top of the exciter frame, insert a lifting eye (14), attach a suitable hoist as illustrated and remove the exciter.
PREPARING TO REMOVE THE EXCITER (Compensating Current Transformer Type)
7. Control panel. 9. Center leads, 3, 4, 5. 10. Lead F2. 11. Terminal block. 12. Lead A2. 13 Lead A1.
NOTE: Be careful when removing the exciter that the disconnected wires will not become caught on the control panels or any other part of the generator.
REMOVING THE EXCITER
14. Lifting eye. 15. Shims.
7. Wire the shims (15) to each leg of the exciter to insure the same amount of belt tension at the time of installation.
8. Inspect all parts for wear or damage and install in the reverse order of removal.
