Usage:
Generator Brush Yoke And Holder Removal And Disassembly
1. Remove the belts and belt guard, the generator pulley and the bearing.
NOTE: The bearing need only be removed if it is necessary to remove the brush yoke (2).
2. Disconnect the wires from the brushes and mark them for reconnection.
3. Remove the brush yoke (2) and holders (1) as an assembly from the shaft.

Remove the brushes from the holders before removing the yoke and holder assembly, so that the spring tension will not force the brushes in between the collector rings where they can be damaged. |
PREPARING TO REMOVE BRUSH YOKE AND HOLDERS
1. Brush holder. 2. Brush yoke.
4. Loosen the clamping bolts (3), remove the brush holders (1) and inspect the insulation (4).
5. Remove the cotter pin (6), the pin (5) and remove the spring.

NOTE: If the spring tension is less than specified in the Operation and Maintenance Instructions, install new springs. If a brush is chipped, shows a great amount of wear or has a loose wire connection, replace it with a new brush.
6. Remove the brush (7).

NOTE: Inspect the collector rings for cleanliness and for concentricity with the shaft. Rough and worn rings can be restored with a sanding stone. Uneven rings can be trued in a lathe or with a 9H2436 Collector Ring Turning Tool.
7. Place the spring into the brush holder and insert the pin (5) so that the end of spring (9) fits into the slot (8) in the pin.
8. After the rotating field has been installed, move the shaft to the rear as far as possible. Set the brushes toward the front edge of the collector rings. This can be done through the rear inspection opens.

9. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
10. Adjust the spring tension according to the Operation and Maintenance Instructions.
