Salvage Of Turbocharger Compressor Housing During Reconditioning{1052}

Usage:

All T18 AiResearch Turbochargers

During reconditioning of T18 AiResearch Turbochargers, most compressor housings can be salvaged (used again) if the compressor wheel has not come in contact with the inlet bore area of the compressor housing. Wear or bad alignment of the compressor housing pilot bore can decrease the clearance between the inducer section of the compressor wheel and the inlet bore area of the compressor housing. If there is enough wear or the alignment is bad enough, it will cause the compressor wheel to come in contact with the housing and damage the compressor housing. The clearance between the compressor housing and the compressor wheel can be increased by machining the diameter of the inlet bore on the compressor housing .015" (0.38 mm) larger. See the illustration. This increase in bore diameter will not change the performance of the turbocharger.

Dimensions to machine the inlet bore on the compressor housing larger.
