Serial Number Prefix and the Component Code Number
An index to the contents of each fiche in SIRS Index is shown in the lower right corner of the fiche. An example of this index is in Illustration 1.

Illustration 2. Arrow points to SMCS Component Code number.
Look at the index reference for 627 Tractors in Illustration 2. The 627 has a serial number prefix 54K. What looks like a machine serial number 1400 in the next column is the SMCS Component Code number for Electric System. 1400 is not part of the machine serial number.
