Permanent Installation Quick Disconnects For Pressure Testing Now Available{0651}

Usage:

New coupler assemblies and nipple assemblies (see Illustration 1), that can be permanently installed in Caterpillar equipment are available. The nipples and couplers used for quick disconnect connections are also available for use with the 5P5224 Pressure Gauge Kit and the 5P6225 Transmission Hydraulic Test Group. The new coupler and nipple assemblies will seal over a wide range of pressures and fluids.

Illustration 1. New nipples and couplers for quick disconnections.

The new coupler and nipple assemblies have the specifications that follow:

Temperature Range ... -40°F to 250°F(-40° C to 121° C)

Pressure Range ... 28" Mercury Vacuum to 6000 psi(710 mm Mercury Vacuum to 41500 kPa)

Maximum Connection Pressure ... 250 psi(1720 kPa)

Maximum Disconnection Pressure ... 1000 psi(6900 kPa)

Applications Petroleum Products, Water, Glycol Fluids

Pressure Loss With Oil at 80°F (27°C) ... 120 psi at 1 gpm(827 kPa at 4 litre/min) ... 415 psi at 2 gpm(2861 kPa at 8 litre/min)

Disconnect Fluid Loss Minimal (very small)

The 5P9711 and 5P9714 Nipple Assemblies are valved (have a valve built into them), which permits them to be permanently installed at test points in the hydraulic, transmission, engine oil, or cooling systems. See Illustrations 2 and 3. The 5P9711 Nipple Assembly has a 1/4" NPT and the 5P9714 Nipple Assembly has a 9/16-18 SAE O-ring thread. A 3J1907 O-ring Seal must be used with each 5P9714 Nipple Assembly.

NOTICE

The 5P9714 Nipple must be installed to 18±2 lb ft (24±3 N·m). A torque that is too high will cause failure in the thread area.

The two valve nipples have a smooth flat design that permits the nipples to be easily cleaned with a shop towel (cloth) before the coupler is connected. A dust cap for the two nipples will be available in the near future. The dust cap is desired, but is not necessary because of the smooth flat design of the nipples.

In addition to the two valved nipple assemblies there are three valved coupler assemblies and three nipples available. The chart that follows has a complete list of the new couplers and nipples available to make quick disconnections with the 5P5224 and 5P6225 Hydraulic Test Kits.

In the future the 5P5224 Pressure Gauge Kit will have the new couplers and nipples, plus an additional 5P9706 Coupler and an 8L6557 Connector for direct connection to nipples that are permanently installed on machines. The new parts can be added to the present 5P5224 Pressure Gauge Kit, see the chart that follows:

The new parts can also be added to the 5P6225 Transmission Hydraulic Test Group so it can have quick disconnections. See the chart that follows:

To use the 5P6225 Transmission Hydraulic Test Group on machines equipped with permanently installed nipple assemblies, four additional 5P9702 Coupler Assemblies and four 7S8888 Nipples will be needed.
