Speed Sensor (Transmission Output) - Adjust

Usage:

994D 3TZ

------ WARNING! ------

Sudden movement or accidental starting of the machine can cause personal injury or death to persons on or near the machine.

To prevent personal injury or death, perform the following:

Park the machine on a smooth level surface.

Lower the bucket and or attachments to the ground.

Stop the engine and engage the parking brake.

Block the wheels and install the steering frame lock.

Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position and remove the key.

Place a Special Instruction, SEHS7332, "Do Not Operate" tag at the battery disconnect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Transmission Output Speed Sensor

(1) Speed sensor. (2) Self-adjusting cap

Adjustment of Air Gap

  1. Fully extend self-adjusting cap (2) to dimension A before installing the sensor.

    Dimension A ... 6.5 mm (.26 inch)

    Note: The self-adjusting cap contacts the output gear when the sensor is installed. The air gap between the sensor and the output gear is created by runout.

  1. Torque sensor (1) to 25 ± 5 N·m (18 ± 4 lb ft) after installing the sensor in the torque converter housing.
