Service Magazine SEPD0574-00, April 2001, "A New Spindle Is Available for Wheel Loaders, Wheel Tractors, and Landfill Compactors".

Reference: This Service Magazine replaces the old Service Magazine, SEPD0574-00, April 2001, "A New Spindle Is Available for Wheel Loaders, Wheel Tractors, and Landfill Compactors".

Description of Change: A new high strength 197-8287 Spindle has replaced the high strength 115-9768 Spindle and standard strength 142-7562 Spindle for Parts Service. The new 197-8287 Spindle has a machined oil cooler port. The port is plugged with a 3K-0360 O-Ring Seal and a 9S-8005 Plug on machines that are not equipped with an axle oil cooler system. The standard strength 142-7562 Spindle with oil cooler port had replaced the standard strength 114-2548 Spindle without oil cooler port. This change was effective with the 988F (S/N: 2ZR700-UP) and 834B (S/N: 7BR600-UP).

Adaptable To: The 197-8287 Spindle is adaptable to first production of the listed machines.

The remanufactured part number 10R-0702 wheel and final drive group has the high strength 197-8287 Spindle, 3K-0360 O-Ring Seal, and 9S-8005 Plug for above listed models. The remanufactured part number 0R-4641 wheel and final drive group with the standard strength 142-7562 Spindle has been replaced by the remanufactured part number 10R-0702 wheel and final drive group.

During normal final drive rebuilds, inspect all spindles for cracks.

In order to increase the service life of 988F Series II spindles, the rear axle spindles can be moved to the front axle and the front axle spindles can be moved to the rear axle. Alternatively, the new high strength 197-8287 Spindles or the remanufactured part number 10R-0702 wheel and final drive groups can be installed in the front axles for high load applications. With the standard strength 114-2548 Spindles, the 142-7562 Spindles or the remanufactured part number 0R-4641 wheel and final groups can be installed in the rear axle.
