Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry. Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for replacement.
- Use Tool (C) and install bearing cup (19) (not shown) in housing (1) .

- Use a suitable driver with a press and install bearings (18) (one on each side) on gear (16) .

- Use Tool (C) in order to install shims (20) and cup (17) in cover (14) .

- Install gear (16) in housing (1) .

- Install gasket (15) on housing (1) .

- Install cover (14) on housing (1) .

- Install eight bolts (13) and tighten to a torque of 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

- Use Tool (A) in order to check for 0.00 mm to 0.05 mm (0.000 inch to 0.002 inch) end play. Adjust shims (20) (not shown) accordingly.

- Use Tool (B) in order to install retaining ring (12) in idler gear (7) .

- Lower the temperature of bearing cups (11) and install the bearing cups in idler gear (7) .

- Install idler gear (7), bearings (9) and washer (10) in housing (1). Apply 5P-3931 Anti-Seize Compound to idler shaft (8) and install idler shaft (8) .

- Install shim washers (6), washer (5) (the flat end of the washer toward the housing flange) and bolt (4) in housing (1). Tighten bolt (4) to a torque of 100 N·m (75 lb ft).

- Use Tool (A) in order to check for 0.00 mm to 0.05 mm (0.000 inch to 0.002 inch) end play. Adjust shims (6) (not shown) accordingly.

- Install gasket (2), the bolt and nut (3) in housing (1) .
