Removal Procedure

Disconnect batteries before performance of any service work. |
|
Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
- Remove the front right engine guard.

- Disconnect wires (1), (2) and (3) from alternator (4) .

- Loosen bolt (5). Loosen jam nut (7) and jam nut (8) on rod (6) .

- Remove nut (10), bolt (9) and the washers. Push the rod and holding block (11) out of the way.

- Remove bolts (14) and (13) and the washers. Slide the alternator toward the engine in order to release the tension on V-belt (12). Remove the V-belt from the pulley.
- Remove alternator fan guard (15). Remove the alternator.

- Remove bolt (17), the washer and wire (16) .
- Remove bolt (18), bolt (20) and the washers. Remove bracket (19) .
Installation Procedure

- Install bracket (19) with bolt (20), bolt (18) and the washers.
- Install wire (16), the washer and bolt (17) .

- Install the alternator and alternator fan guard (15). Install bolt (13), bolt (14) and the washers.
Note: Leave bolt (14) and bolt (13) snug. Tighten bolt (14) after the rod has been adjusted and the V-belt has the correct tension.
- Install V-belt (12) .

- Replace the rod and holding block (11). Install bolt (9), the washers and nut (10) .
Note: Tighten nut (10) after the rod has been adjusted and the V-belt has the correct tension.

- Tighten bolt (5). Adjust the tension on the V-belt and tighten jam nut (8) and jam nut (7) on the rod. Tighten the nut that holds the holding block at the end of the rod.
Note: Adjust the V-belt tension. use a Kent Moore Company BT-33-72C gauge. The correct tension for a new V-belt is 534 ± 22 N (120 ± 5 lb). The correct tension for a used V-belt is 400 ± 44 N (90 ± 10 lb). The tension of a used V-belt is over 30 minutes of operation at rated speed.
- Tighten the nut that holds the alternator to the bracket.
- Connect wires (3), (2) and (1) to alternator (4) .
- Install the front right engine guard.
