The foot brake control is used in order to engage the service brakes. Deceleration depends on the amount of pressure that is exerted on the foot brake control.

Repeated applications of the foot brake on downgrades can cause wear and overheating of the service brakes. Prolonged operation of the foot brake on downgrades can cause wear and overheating of the service brakes. Before you start down a grade, select the correct gear. Use the retarder to slow the machine.

The foot brake must be used in order to fully stop the machine.
