SUBJECT: ENGINE SOFTWARE CAN CAUSE HARD COLD START
PROBLEM:
There have been complaints of hard cold starting, white smoke, and rough running of early Challenger 65E and Challenger 75E Agricultural Tractors while in cold mode. This problem occurs after updating engine flash files 180-7275, 180-7276, 180-7280, or 180-7281 as part of the Cat ID update program PS4646.
SOLUTION:
An improved software flash file is under development and will be announced when available. In the interim, if the tractor is going to be operated in cold weather, and problems with Cat ID are not an urgent concern, it is recommended that program PS4646 to update Cat ID chips and flash files be postponed until an updated flash file is available.
If any similar cold start problems are reported on tractors past the above serial number ranges, or on any Challenger 85E or Challenger 95E Agricultural Tractors, NACD dealers should contact Caterpillar Product Support at (815)754-8426. Dealers in other marketing subsidiaries should notify your product support representative.
