Problem:
Failures can occur to the drive shaft when an Auger is operated while resting in the mounting bracket. The bracket is designed for transporting and supporting the Auger only. If the Auger is against the bracket during operation and the machine is moved in any direction a bending load is applied to the shaft. Under these conditions the shaft will bend and or break. Failures have been reported to the 161-5836 Shaft on A13 Auger and the 153-4082 Shaft on the A7 Auger.
Solution:
These failures can be reduced by recommending operators to be sure the Auger is swinging free before digging. The Auger should be completely out of the bracket before digging.
Changes to the drive shaft are underway to minimize as much as possible similar occurences. Reducing these failures even further will require the dealers to strongly emphasize these recommendations.
Dealers must communicate this information to customers, Rental Stores, operators, and end users.
