Description of Change: The 3P-8146 Bearing Cage, part of the 9G-9625 Transfer Gear Group, is now held in place with longer bolts and spacers. The longer bolts and spacers will provide better retention of the 3P-8146 Bearing Cage.
Adaptable To: The ten 0L-2070 Bolts and the ten 6N-9340 Spacers are a direct replacement for ten 1A-2029 Bolts and 5M-2894 Washers. The 2A-4639 Bolt, 6B-2882 Spacer and 5M-2894 Washer is still used at the location which holds the speed sensor guard. Use the following method to install the ten longer 0L-2070 Bolts and 6N-9348 Spacers.
Transfer Gear Group Rework
On The Machine
1. Remove the drive shaft guard and modify it using the dimensions given in Illustration 1.
Illustration 1. Dimensions for making modifications to the driveshaft guard assembly. (A) 50.8 mm (2.00 in). (B) 76.2 mm (3.00 in). (C) 38.1 mm (1.50 in). View is from the left side.
2. Remove each original 1A-2029 Bolt and 5M-2894 Washer one at a time, installing and tightening each new 0L-2070 Bolt and 6N-9340 Spacer before removing another original bolt and washer. Tighten the new bolt to 55 ± 10 N·m (40 ± 7 lb ft). Install the ten 0L-2070 Bolts and ten 6N-9340 Spacers in the holes marked D in Illustration 2.
NOTE: Be sure to tighten the new bolt to the specified torque before moving on to the next original bolt.
