A procedure for checking disc brake lining assembly wear without removing the tire and wheel is now available. The procedure can be used to determine when disc brake lining assembly replacement is necessary.
Use the steps that follow to check the disc brake lining assemblies for wear.
1. Use a suitable method to clean the backside of wheel and brake assembly.
2. Use an inspection mirror and work lamp or flashlight to view the disc brake lining assemblies.
3. Replace the lining assemblies when the friction material is less than 4.0 mm (.16 in) thick.
(1) Lining assembly. (2) Brake disc. (3) Brake caliper. Replace lining assembly when Dimension A is less than 4.0 mm (.16 in).
